01

What the Dispatch is

Sperm concentration among unselected men fell an estimated 51% between 1973 and 2018 (Levine et al., 2022). Well documented, badly explained. Most writing on it is either a supplement ad or a paper for people who already read papers.

The Dispatch is the middle. One study in plain language, one exposure worth reducing, one protocol you can run, and the numbers from the races.

Written, not recorded. No sponsored placements, nothing to sell. Every claim names its study and its limits.

Registration is not open yet. The first issue is still being written, so there is nothing to send you today.

03

Inside a typical issue

The same four parts every issue, so it stays short and you can skip to the part you came for.

Part one

One paper, explained in plain language

A single peer-reviewed study on andrology, reproductive toxicology or fertility, read in full. Method, sample size, effect size, and an explicit statement of what the paper does not show.

Part two

One environmental exposure, and how to reduce it

A compound or condition with published human data. Where it comes from, the routes by which it reaches you, and the specific changes that lower contact with it.

Part three

One protocol

A sleep, training, nutrition or heat-management practice written as steps you can follow, with the evidence behind it and the reported size of the effect.

Part four

One race breakdown

Competitive analysis from the track. Which sample won, the biomarkers on record for that matchup, and what separated first place from last.

04

What a race breakdown reports

The fourth part uses the same seven measures taken at every race, listed here so the columns make sense on day one.

BiomarkerUnit / methodWhy it is tracked
Progressive Motility% PR, sperm moving actively forwardCorrelates with natural fertilisation potential; microfluidic channels isolate the fastest, most linear swimmers.
Curvilinear Velocity (VCL)um/s, total point-to-point distance per unit timeMeasures raw propulsion and mitochondrial flagellar power output.
Straight-Line Velocity (VSL)um/s, straight distance start to endKey indicator of directional efficiency in microfluidic fluid dynamics.
Total Motile Sperm Count (TMSC)Volume x Concentration x % MotilityWidely used in andrology as a summary measure of fertilising capacity.
DNA Fragmentation Index (DFI)% fragmented DNA, TUNEL / SCSA assayGenomic integrity; indicator of oxidative stress and metabolic state.
Total & Free Testosteroneng/dL and pg/mL, serum panelCore androgen metric linked to spermatogenesis, performance and systemic health.
Seminal Plasma pH & BufferingpH unitsEnsures a viable environment for cellular survival and flagellar action during processing.
